Our mission and Vision
We use traditional methods to create sustainable, handcrafted clothing, preserving both heritage and the environment, while empowering women artisans.
Our processes
Our chief designers, Ms Papri Basak, conceptualize every piece of clothing on a drawing board before even a single drop of dye falls onto the surface of the fabric. Speaking of fabric, each of the base material is sourced sustainably from rural parts of West Bengal where every square inch of cloth is made through traditional methods of weaving. After sourcing and finalizing the design, we follow standard procedure for dying the fabric following techniques like shibori, kantha stitch, batik, tie dye and block waxing. We finish the product by rinsing and ironing and packaging before it ends up in front of your door.
Each of our processes requires human touch, thus when you touch a piece of our article, you experience the love and dedication of 85+ of our workers.
Our people
We are a team of 12 core members with 90+ artisans across rural areas in west bengal, most of them are women.
Our Journey
We come from a very humble beginning, where our CEO and our Chief designer Ms Papri Basak started her journey by completing an MFA from the prestigious institute of Viswabharati, Santiniketan in West Bengal, India. Over her career she participated in 8+ exhibitions, and conducted 7+ workshops. She worked as consulted and freelanced in many prestigious projects. Everything was seemingly perfect on paper but Papri always longed to start something on her own, a platform that would be flexible enough for her to materialize her ideas into life. Sadaf gave her the medium which she started in 2014. Now we have 500+ clients, and a flourishing community where we celebrate heritage textile arts and ideologies in the most sustainable way. We welcome you to join us in our journey and take a little bit of something for your loved ones.
Because we care
Yes you are coming across the word sustainable again again. But what do we mean by that? Let us explain. We live and breathe by this principle. It starts with the very beginning when we source the raw materials from villages where farmers produce high quality cloths and the natural dyes using old and traditional techniques. We then collect them and employ rural women to help us bring out the designs into life. Every step of the production is touched by human hands and infused with love.
Last but not the least we make sure to reuse our waste material because we can’t stand the fact our fabrics end up in landfills like it happens for most of the fast fashion.
